In programming, by front-end, or client-side, we usually mean everything that you can see when you use an application or a website. It is the first encounter of the user with your application: the design, the webpage itself with all its parts, the user interface. This world is an exciting combination of programming with various programming languages and libraries as well as planning and designing graphical user interfaces for the best user experience.
Back-end is also called server-side in programming. It requires a different set of skills, but it is none the less challenging. This part of the software is usually doing heavy calculations, complex operations and accesses information in databases. Everything that you cannot see in front of you and happens in the background is done by the server-side. To work on the server-side, one has to master an object-oriented language like Java, and needs to be able to work with databases.
A full-stack programmer is the master of both ends and can jump in the work at any point of the development process. This kind of skillset is highly demanded on today’s job market. Just in Norway there are several thousand open positions in IT, let alone world-wide. Smart people with the necessary skillset are more and more needed in the IT industry. Why not be one of them? Take the challenge today!
